Persuasive Essay

Internet VS. TV

We all like to watch our favorite episodes on the TV. The other place we do that is on the computer, the internet. But why would you pay for both? That is where you must think. You would like something that you can watch your shows, do homework, find info, and multi task. Stop paying for cable/dish and get into the internet! With the internet you will be able to do all of the above features, and many more things! There is just one draw back to the internet; the speed will vary depending on your connection. Oh and there might be a couple of killer robots here and there. Other wise than that, I advise others to switch from cable/dish, to the internet.
First of all, the internet is cheaper than cable/dish. Sometimes they both cost the same, but usually internet cost cheaper than cable/dish. Another good thing is that there are no extras you have to buy. Sometimes for cable/dish you have to buy cables, installation, “boxes”, etc. And in 2009 February, you won’t have to switch your internet. Only if you don’t have some type of cable. Therefore, internet is a lot cheaper than cable/dish in some cases.
Another good thing about the internet is being mobile. The internet can connect computer networks around world, stated in the Webster’s Collegiate dictionary on page 654. So you can stay connected with others anywhere in the world. And you won’t miss your favorite episode. Or if you really love a show, song, picture, etc, than you can download it into your computer, phone, iPod, etc. therefore, those are some good examples on what you can do when you have the internet on the go.
The third reason why the internet is way better than cable/dish is for all the things we can learn/do from it all at once. We can do our homework, sell our stuff, buy stuff, download music and movies, look up information, and of course watch shows on it. You also have control on things. For example you can pause your show if you need to go and take care of something real quick. Or you can bookmark (add to favorites) different places where you can watch different shows on, and switch real quickly to each one. And forget about waiting for your TV guide or buying one, you can go online and search when cretin shows will be on, what day and time, or you can even look up information about a show. Oh and another good thing about internet is that if you have a laptop, and the lights go out, you can still get online. Therefore, you can learn and do things threw the internet and watch your shows, all at the same time.
Now, I know that we all fear that someday, there will be superior robot species (Head page33). But for now try to enjoy the internet. And don’t get worried about killer robots, they wont come out until years later, at least that’s what we all think.
So why pay more for cable/dish, when you can have the internet and be able to multi task all at once. As you can see and tell the internet is cheaper, on the go, and multi task able. Just forget about the killer robots taking over the world, someday, for know, relax, and enjoy the wonders of the internet. The only other problem you might have is the speed of the internet you decide to get, but nothing that bad. Now think about it. What is better? What would you rather have, TV or internet? What helps you out more? And if you give the internet a try and find that you don’t like it, than by all means feel free to go back to cable/dish, and start thinking about the killer robots that will enslave all of humanity someday. And if you find that you so like the internet, than go crazy (not literally) and have fun with it. I believe it is better to have internet than cable/dish anytime, besides the killer robot part.

  1. I like you main ideas and most of your elaborations, but it isn't realistic for all people. Take my family for example. I can't afford a new computer with fast internet capabilities but I already have a TV that shows all of my son's favorite programs. Make sure that you think about the other side too. Also, you need to focus on citing sources internally correctly!! Rubric score:
States a position and adequately attempts to persuade the reader
Is consistently organized, although perhaps simplistically
Provides some elaborated support of the author’s position
Sentence structures and word choice are appropriate; errors in spelling, grammar, or punctuation may occur, but they do not interfere with reader understanding
    Format is perfect

    Total score 80/100
    Bib 30/30

  2. You had some good details in your paper and it was organized. It was really hard to follow and stay interested in it. The essay was biased and didn't show the other side of the argument. It really stood out to me that you are all for using the internet instead of a TV. But what do you do when you want to have a girls night and watch all your favorite shows on a plasma tv? you wont be able to all see the comp screen. I liked how you made it very clear that you would choose the net over the dish

  3. I liked that you mentioned "killer robots" it made it funny but Mrs. Boresen does have a point about not every body being able to aford new computers. I would perfer to keep my T.V. too because i like to watch shows on their that i can't find on the internet, also i don't like to stay on the computer too long. I do understand where you are coming from on you don't need to pay both because it could get outrageous and outacontrol, especially in our economy.
